PIRELLI MARANELLO FERRARI CHALLENGE
RACE REPORT : ROUND 6 : CASTLE COMBE : 3 JUNE 2002

• David Preston certainly prepares some healthy cars but his two drivers needed a bit of attention and became non-starters. Gary Culver has had a successful operation to his ailing back and is now recovering well at home. Happily Richard Stevens is also back at home recovering from his blood clot. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery and a return to the grids goes to them both.
  
  
• Normally when a car is underweight it's by just a few kilos but Cosby's 512M was certainly in a league of its own with 79 kilos under the weight limit. We don't know what went on in the C of the C's office but the general paddock concensus was that Alan was lucky to avoid a licence endorsement. He said that the weight discrepancy was because he had removed the passenger seat.
  
  
• Pirelli jackets were finally delivered! Martin Pallow did a roaring trading in handing them out to the PMFC competitors from the back of his car. Very nice they are too and everyone was very pleased to be wearing them on this often cold and miserable day.
  
  
• The SCS lads reported a strange occurrence whilst they were driving their transporter down the M5. Apparently a dark coloured Aston Martin blasted by them at stratospheric velocity. Curiously Oliver Morley had a similar car parked up in the paddock when we all arrived there. Can't have been the same car surely.....
  
  
• Driving conduct caused a lot of comment in the paddock afterwards with what many felt to be excessive weaving during the lead battle. It has even elicited comment in the Forum section of the Club's website. There was an ensuing confrontation in the paddock between the two drivers concerned but others stepped in to avoid matters becoming worse.
  
  
• Used to practice sessions running late, not a single PMFC driver was ready in the assembly area by the time the practice session started. Some were still trying to figure out which tryes to fit, but finally they all made it out. Interestingly, pole-man Morley completed 13 laps but Graham Scott only did four for his second row grid position.
  
  
• Damax boss Robin Ward, over-seeing no less than five cars, had just returned from the Nurburgring 24 hours race where he finished fourth in class and 64th overall out of a field of over 200 entries. He was so enthralled by racing around the old Nordschleife that the team hope to take one of their 355s over for another long-distance race later this season. Give Robin a call if you want to be included.
