At the first F1 tests of the year, in Barcelona, the Ferrari team used two of last year's F2001 cars for testdrivers Luciano Burti and Luca Badoer. They displayed the new livery which will be featured from this year onwards, as a result of the three-year sponsorship deal from the mobile phone operator Vodaphone.

When the deal was announced in May 2001 it was stated that, from the 2002 season onwards, the team would feature "significant branding" with Vodafone appearing on the race cars, the drivers' overalls and helmets, and the pit crews attire which will be provide by Nike after Hilfiger had lost the deal. It will also allow Vodafone to offer Ferrari-branded services for supporters of the team.

"This is an exceptionally good deal for us," said Vodafone Chief Executive, Sir Christopher Gent "Vodafone believes in backing winners, and Ferrari is a valuable addition to our existing successful global sponsorships."
