Ferrari Happenings

FIA GT Update
by Arthur Beattie
6.10.05

We've lost a bit of enthusiasm for GT racing this year as proper Ferraris are being beaten by re-badged ones in GT1 and it hasn't helped that the Prodrive MkII is badged an Aston rather than a Ferrari - mind you it's difficult to see what even Prodrive could do with the somewhat corpulent 612 Scaglietti. Maybe things will get better next season when Ferrari launch the GT2 430GTC.

Round 7 took place at Oschersleben in Germany on 28th August and Masers finished 1-2 with formers Ferraristas Babini & Biaggi taking the win in their Vitaphone car. Deletraz & Piccini's GPC Sport 575GTC was best Fazza in sixth. Lamy & Gardel come home seventh in their Labre Compétition 550M (Prodrive MkI).

Round 8 was at Istanbul Park on 18th September and it must have been quite something to see the GT cars going through turn 8! Again it was a Maserati whitewash with MC12s taking the first three places. Top Ferrari was again Deletraz/Piccini in fourth, with Lamy/Gardel sixth.

With three rounds to go JMB's Wendlinger and Ferrari test driver Bertolini are leading the GT1 Drivers' Championship with Gardel best Ferrari pilota in seventh. The Teams' title chase is led by Vitaphone with Labre third.

Next Round: Zhuhai: 23 October 2005.
